🎬 How to Write Music for Tragedy & Grief | ruclips.net/video/eV_GJgf-ouo/видео.html
Ambient music is one of the most popular genres around. And imitating the Skyrim soundtrack is easily one of my most highly requested videos!
In this video, we'll learn how to create the signature sound of the popular fantasy game, by learning how to write epic/cinematic chord progressions. Then we'll learn about structure and arranging for this genre, before ending it all with a look at general instrumentation and orchestration.

Thanks for video
The end result sounds great! Desperately needed to learn more about ambient tracks - thanks for the great video!!
@@rocad_guitar thank you! And I'm glad my video is helpful :)
ambient scores were the first kind I've ever written
@@Alexgudmusic hopefully you can still learn something new in the video :)
@@TableTopComposer I’m sure I’ll learn something new. I never really tried to learn
Great video. Helps a lot. Thank you :)
The next cohort for my "Portrayihg Emotions with Music" class begins MONDAY!!!! There are a few spots left, so grab yours before it's too late. www.tabletopcomposer.com/emotions-and-music-class
Credibility our the window when you talk about two notes from Hans Zimmer.
What could be said of this conclusion? ❤🎉
I find you didn't explain the 6 aspects of motif enough. The pitch, tempo, ... I still do not know the difference between timbre and dynamics. Aren't timbre and articulation the same thing ?
Harpist here, the range of the harp is C1 to G7 idk how you do your octaves but its 47 strings Basically it's the really high G thats 3 notes below the Top C on a grand piano Its kind of frustrating when ive encountered music where I can't even play the non existent notes because now we have to rewrite the part which is something harpists do all the time, even in professional orchestras
Interesting! No offense but.... anything wrong with your camera? I am asking because I have faced the same problems.
@Horrorlover65681 no offense taken at all! I think it was the connection. I was using OBS with my phone's camera but it didn't work as well as it has in the past. I unfortunately didn't realize anything was off until the video was done (Premiere's preview window is usually pretty jerky anyway). I decided to still upload so people could have a full month to prepare for the contest.
@TableTopComposer >Premiere's preview window is pretty jerky anyway Are you me?🤣
@@Horrorlover65681 😂😂😂
Count me in!
@definxleynlite5446 nice! Excited to see what you submit :)
I want to enter even though I won last time because it’s so fun. I could already picture a scene and the score to go with it when I heard the prompt.
@Alexgudmusic go ahead an enter! Past winners aren't eligible to win again, but you might still get featured in the stream :)
@@TableTopComposer yeah, I didn't think I could win again but if I could get my song featured that's still a Win for me
Lets goooo
OK I'm down
Looking forward to hearing what you write!
@@TableTopComposer is it allowed to use external sound.. Like sound of waterfall or horses??
@Shibshankar_Roy cool idea! I'd say go for it, but make sure they're part of the music ( sort of like how hans Zimmer included the sound of swords and flags in the cue "worm army" from dune 2)
@@TableTopComposer ok
I'm super excited to listen to the submissions! As a reminder, enrollment for my class on Portraying Emotions with Music is open for the New Cohort, which starts July 29th! Grab a spot before they fill up! www.tabletopcomposer.com/emotions-and-music-class
Don’t forget to ping your comment so it stay at the top 😊
@@Alexgudmusic Oops! Thanks for the reminder :)
Lets see.. One day my music will be in your listening playlist..
👏👍👍
I'm sure this has been asked, but what is the name of this program?
Cubase :) The type of software is called a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), and there are several options, but Cubase is my favorite (even if I do use an older version)
Question: If I were to use a polyrhythm in my motif, would the fact that the motif's rhythm is different from the beat of the piece enough to create that internal contrast? Or not if I keep the note length the same?
excellent question! I think it would work :)
Thanks, this videos about melody are great !
How would apply this techniques to writing parts for a typical band structure ( 2 guitars, drums bass and vocals ) for rock/pop. Thanks in advance !
counterpoint isn't typically used in genres involving a "typical band structure" but that doesn't mean it can't be useful :) I'd say that the most common use tends to be for writing counter melodies. For example, the singer might be performing the melody, while the lead guitar plays a secondary melody underneath. You can also use it to create more dynamic basslines. The strategy covered in this video can be useful anytime you want to write two or more "melodic" layers in your music, and want to make sure they don't clash. I hope that helps!
Thank you very much for this content!
Great video (:
I would not exaggerate if I would say that my music got two times better in terms of workflow and quality after just a few videos of yours, thanks for the time put in (:
Never understood basic extended harmony till now, thanks (:
I know this was made 2 years ago, but this breakdown was IMMENSELY helpful!!! I'm trying to score a character theme right now and getting the overall feel was second nature, but planning out their motif has just felt so daunting. This helped me look at things from a different and logical perspective :) Thank you for the time it took to make this!
I was always overfocusing on valence yet now I have much bigger udnerstanding how to adapt my piece, thanks (:
@@ryxsenl3018 happy to help!!! :)
Elder video yet nothing less othan a gold mine. Helped me from the get-go. Much appreaciated (:
Insane quality of video, thanks (:
thank you for this great lesson, my arranging and composing skills has greatly improved thanks to your talent for teaching useful notions.
Thank you! Very valuable
I,m gonna be the king-- OF THE PIRATEEEES!!!! Let's go Luffyyyyy!!!!! Love it! Lovely contest, great submissions! I'll try to participate in the next one.
It was a ton of fun! I'm looking forward to the next one, as well :)
❤ 😊
All incredible inspirational pieces by everyone, congrats to the winners, and hope I get the chance to participate in the next one!
Definitely!!!
This video is a hidden gem, I always wondered why i never got bored of this score. So diligently analyzed
who won?
Gotta watch the video 😉
@@TableTopComposer ok
Great stuff! I'll have to keep an eye out and enter something for the next one.
what about harmonic variation? for example exact same melody in C but now in Am7?
Wow!! Incredible submissions!!! Well done everyone. Wish I knew about it, I'd love to submit on the next competition.
Right?!?! So much talent :) There will definitely be more. I'll make a video announcement next time so it reaches more people than just a few community posts
Thank you so much. I understand the concept better. But is interval the only way of writing counterpoint? Can you do a video explaining splitting ratio part? It doesn’t sound well or I don’t understand the concept.
Thank you, so well explained video
